Nigerian social media commentator Cartoon Boytv has sparked reactions online after attributing the country’s growing insecurity challenges to failures at the local government level rather than the federal government.
In a post shared on X, the political commentator, who is known for frequently discussing national issues and expressing support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration, argued that Nigerians should direct greater scrutiny toward local government leaders.
According to Cartoon Boytv, insecurity affecting many communities across the country should not always be blamed on the federal government. He stated that citizens should begin holding their local government chairmen accountable for security concerns within their respective areas.
“Let’s stop accusing the federal government all the time. Hold your local government chairman accountable,” the social media user wrote.
The statement quickly generated mixed reactions online, with some users agreeing that local authorities have a significant role to play in addressing grassroots security challenges. Others, however, argued that the federal government remains responsible for coordinating national security efforts and should continue to be held accountable for protecting citizens.
The comments come amid ongoing national conversations about insecurity, kidnapping, banditry, and community safety across several parts of Nigeria, with many citizens calling for stronger collaboration between federal, state, and local authorities to tackle the challenges.
