The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has announced his withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries ahead of the election in Rivers State.

In a statement released on May 20, 2026, the governor said the decision came after wide consultations with his family, political allies, and close associates. According to him, the move was made in the interest of maintaining peace, unity, and political stability in rivers state.

The governor also pledged his full support for whichever candidate eventually emerges as the APC flagbearer for the 2026 governorship election. He called on his supporters to remain calm and continue working for the unity of the party.
