The Nigeria Police Force has cautioned Nigerians against sharing a viral video falsely linked to the recent abduction of school children and teachers in Oyo State.
In a statement released by the Force, authorities clarified that the footage being circulated online is not connected to the incident in Oyo State and did not originate from Nigeria. The police explained that the old video is being misleadingly recycled on social media to spread fear and misinformation among the public.
The Force noted that security agencies are actively working to secure the release of the abducted victims. According to the statement, additional operational personnel and intelligence assets have been deployed to strengthen ongoing rescue efforts.
Police authorities reassured residents that efforts to rescue the victims remain a top priority, adding that law enforcement agencies are committed to ensuring the safe return of those abducted.
The statement also urged Nigerians to avoid spreading unverified information online, warning that false reports and misleading videos could create unnecessary panic and hinder security operations.
The clarification comes amid heightened concern across the country following reports of the school abduction in Oyo State, which has continued to spark reactions on social media and renewed discussions about insecurity in Nigeria.
