Governor Seyi Makinde has appealed to residents of Oyo State and concerned Nigerians to refrain from staging protests over the recent abduction incident in the state, warning that such actions could unintentionally aid the perpetrators and complicate ongoing rescue efforts.
Speaking amid growing concerns over the reported kidnapping of schoolchildren and their teachers, Makinde emphasized that security agencies are actively working to secure the safe release of the victims and bring those responsible to justice.
According to the governor, public demonstrations at this stage could have unintended consequences, including giving the kidnappers additional attention and confidence while potentially disrupting sensitive security operations.
“Do not protest. It will only fuel the terrorists’ ego and complicate things,” Makinde reportedly stated while addressing concerns surrounding the incident.
The governor assured families of the abducted victims that the state government is working closely with security agencies and other relevant authorities to ensure a positive outcome. He urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of efforts being made behind the scenes.
The abduction has generated widespread outrage and anxiety across Oyo State and beyond, with many Nigerians taking to social media to demand stronger measures to tackle insecurity and protect schools from criminal attacks.
While some citizens have expressed support for the governor’s appeal, arguing that security operations should be allowed to proceed without interference, others believe peaceful protests can help keep public attention on the plight of the victims and pressure authorities to act swiftly.
As rescue efforts continue, many residents remain hopeful that the abducted children and teachers will be safely reunited with their families in the coming days.
The incident has once again renewed discussions about school security, community safety, and the broader challenge of kidnapping and violent crime in parts of the country.
