Suspected terrorists have launched a deadly attack on Ayegunle Bunu community in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing one person and abducting more than 30 individuals, including passengers travelling in a commercial bus.

The attack reportedly occurred in the early hours of Monday, June 1, at about 2:25 a.m. Residents said the gunmen stormed the community, causing panic as they carried out the operation under the cover of darkness.

During the incident, one resident was confirmed dead while another person sustained injuries. Reports from the community also indicated that two local residents, a man and a woman, were among those taken away by the attackers.

Witnesses said the gunmen intercepted a commercial bus passing through the area and forcibly abducted several passengers on board. The exact number of those kidnapped remains unclear, but local sources estimate that more than 30 people were taken during the raid.

The attackers reportedly operated for several minutes without any resistance before fleeing with their victims to an unknown destination. Security agencies have yet to provide an official update on rescue efforts or arrests linked to the incident.

The latest attack has heightened fears among residents over the growing insecurity in parts of Kogi State, particularly along routes connecting local communities to neighbouring Kwara State. Community members are calling for stronger security measures to protect lives and prevent further attacks.
