The Former presidential candidate Peter Obi of LP, urged Nigerians to reject ethnic and religious considerations when choosing their preferred candidate in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV on Monday night, Obi emphasized that leadership decisions should be based on competence and the ability to deliver meaningful change.
The former Anambra State governor, who recently moved from the Labour Party to the African Democratic Party, is expected to contest in the next presidential election. He said his ambition is driven by a desire to address Nigeria’s pressing challenges.
Obi appealed to voters not to support him based on his South-East origin or Christian faith, but rather on his plans and commitment to national development. According to him, his focus would be on rebuilding the country’s economy and restoring productivity.
He added that his strategy would begin in Northern Nigeria, where he believes many of the country’s socio-economic challenges are concentrated. Obi said revitalising productivity in the region would help improve security and economic stability.
The former candidate also outlined his broader vision of shifting Nigeria’s economy from consumption-driven practices to production, stressing the need to move away from wealth distribution towards wealth creation.
