Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory has said former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, does not have the political capacity to deliver Rivers State for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2027 general elections.
Wike made the remarks on Friday while speaking with journalists in Abuja, where he reflected on past electoral outcomes in the state. He argued that despite Amaechi’s political standing and influence within the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party was unable to achieve significant victories in Rivers State during previous elections.
Citing the 2015 and 2019 election cycles, Wike noted that Amaechi held strategic national roles, including serving as Director-General of the presidential campaign of former President Muhammadu Buhari. He said that even with what he described as considerable federal backing, the APC struggled to gain control in the state.
According to Wike, Rivers State has consistently resisted external political pressure, pointing out that he won both his first and second-term governorship elections despite the influence of his opponents. He questioned the likelihood of Amaechi delivering the state to the ADC if elections were held today.
The FCT minister also expressed doubts about the ADC’s chances in Benue State, stating that former Senate President David Mark, who currently chairs the party, may not be able to secure support in his home state. He cited political developments involving Mark’s family and party affiliations as evidence of limited influence and political strength.
