The Government of Abia State has expressed deep sorrow over the death of a truck driver identified as Mr. Kelechi Ejiofor who succumbed to injuries sustained in a shooting incident involving a soldier at the Timber Market in Uratta.
In a statement made by Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information, the government confirmed it is in active discussions with military authorities to ensure a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the truck driver.
The government assured the public and family of the victim that justice would be pursued diligently. It emphasized that any officer found responsible would face legal consequences in accordance with the law. Authorities also encouraged residents to remain calm and law-abiding while investigations are carried out.
Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the government stressed its dedication to upholding the rule of law and protecting the fundamental rights of all citizens.
Ejiofor was reported to have died on Monday at a hospital in Aba, where he had been receiving treatment for the injuries he sustained.
