BBA Motors Nigeria has officially introduced the Zeekr 9X to the Nigerian market, unveiling the premium electric SUV at an event in Lagos. The launch marks the vehicle’s first introduction to the African market and highlights the growing interest in high end electric mobility in Nigeria.
The unveiling places Nigeria among emerging markets attracting new energy vehicle brands seeking to expand their presence beyond established automotive markets. For BBA Motors, the launch also represents an expansion of its business into the premium electric vehicle segment.
The Zeekr 9X is positioned as a flagship electric SUV, combining an advanced electric drivetrain with intelligent driving technologies and a luxury focused interior. The model is designed to appeal to consumers looking for a combination of performance, technology, comfort and electric mobility.
Among the vehicle’s highlighted features are a high performance electric powertrain, intelligent driver-assistance systems and AI-powered infotainment technology. The SUV also comes with premium interior materials, executive style seating and panoramic digital displays aimed at enhancing the passenger experience.
BBA Motors said the introduction of the Zeekr 9X is part of its broader effort to bring advanced Chinese automotive technology to Nigerian consumers. The company also sees the launch as an opportunity to strengthen automotive and technology links between Nigeria and Asian markets.
The company’s new intelligent flagship showroom in Lagos was opened alongside the vehicle launch. The facility hosted the first exclusive offline preview of the Zeekr 9X in Nigeria and was also the location where the first unit of the model was delivered in the country.
Nigerian music star D’banj was among the notable personalities at the event and received the first Zeekr 9X delivered in Nigeria. The gathering also brought together business executives, automotive industry stakeholders and members of the media.
Another prominent attendee was Oyebanji Oyelaran Oyeyinka, a former Director of the Regional Office for Africa of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme. His presence added to the mix of business and institutional figures at the unveiling.
BBA Motors Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Rebecca Jia, said the company’s focus in Nigeria is to make globally competitive Chinese automotive technology accessible to local consumers while developing services suited to the Nigerian market.
Jia described the Lagos flagship showroom as an important step in the company’s expansion and its move into the high-end new energy vehicle market. Beyond luxury vehicles, she said BBA Motors intends to offer a broader range of vehicles capable of serving different categories of Nigerian customers.
The company also plans to provide mobility-related services for corporate customers and commercial operators. These include fleet procurement, vehicle leasing, maintenance services and mobility solutions for businesses and ride-hailing platforms.
The Zeekr brand operates under Geely Holding Group and has built its international presence around premium electric vehicles and intelligent automotive technologies. The brand’s expansion into Nigeria comes as electric vehicle manufacturers continue to explore opportunities in markets where demand for alternative forms of transportation is developing.
At the Lagos presentation, product experts said the Zeekr 9X displayed in Nigeria had been optimized with African operating conditions in mind. This includes considerations relating to Nigerian road networks and the country’s high-temperature climate.
The model is also advertised with a driving range of up to 560 kilometres on a single charge and support for ultra fast charging technology. These capabilities are among the factors manufacturers increasingly emphasize as electric vehicles enter markets where charging infrastructure and driving distances remain important considerations for consumers.
The arrival of the Zeekr 9X comes against the backdrop of gradual growth in interest in electric mobility in Nigeria. Manufacturers, investors and mobility companies are increasingly exploring new-energy vehicles as part of the wider transition toward more sustainable transportation.
For BBA Motors, the launch is not being presented as a one-off vehicle introduction. The company said it plans to continue expanding its service network across Nigeria and introduce additional models aimed at different segments of the local market.
The newly opened Lagos flagship showroom is available to individual and corporate customers seeking information about the company’s vehicles and mobility services. The company’s expansion could provide Nigerian consumers with greater access to premium electric vehicles as the country’s automotive market continues to evolve.
