Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has confirmed his participation in the 2026 Elective National Convention of the Labour Party, held in Umuahia. The event brought together key stakeholders, delegates, and party members from across the country.
Otti praised the party’s leadership for organising what he described as a peaceful, transparent, and inclusive convention. He also congratulated the newly elected 34-member National Working Committee, noting that its composition reflects broad national representation across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.
The governor further acknowledged the presence of Betty Akeredolu, who attended the convention as a member of the party. He commended her active participation, describing it as a reflection of the growing strength and diversity within the Labour Party.
In addition, Otti recognised the contributions of the dissolved Caretaker Committee, stating that its leadership ensured stability during a crucial transition period. According to him, their efforts helped maintain unity within the party ahead of the convention.
Addressing party members, Otti emphasised the need for reconciliation and expansion, stressing that political success depends on strong numbers. He urged the new leadership to re-engage aggrieved members, rebuild trust, and prioritise initiatives such as electronic membership registration to strengthen the party’s base. He also called for credible and transparent primaries at all levels, while commending officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission for effectively monitoring the convention.
Otti expressed confidence in the leadership of Nenadi Usman, describing her as a person of integrity with significant public service experience. He said he believes her team, with collective support, will steer the party towards success in future political engagements.
