The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has cleared the participation of all aspirants who purchased Expression of Interest Forms in its primaries scheduled to hold on May 28 and 29, 2026.
The decision was reached after a several meeting involving the party’s National Chairman, presidential aspirant Peter Obi, members of the National Working Committee, and the Screening and Selection Committees headed by former governor Sam Egwu.
According to the party, the move became necessary due to the limited time available and the unexpectedly high number of aspirants seeking to contest elections on the NDC platform across the country. The party stated that only candidates who emerge successful from the primaries would proceed with further documentation and payment for nomination forms at the party secretariat in Abuja.
NDC also disclosed that senior party officials have been deployed nationwide to supervise the primaries in collaboration with stakeholders and local party leaders. The party emphasized the need for unity, transparency, and equal opportunities for all aspirants during the exercise.
The party noted that the primaries for State Assembly positions would be conducted through direct primaries at constituency levels, while House of Representatives, Senate, governorship, and presidential affirmations would take place at various Local Government Headquarters.
Moreover, the NDC warned against violence, intimidation, and disorderly conduct during the primaries, stressing that strict disciplinary measures would be taken against anyone found violating party rules. The party also announced plans to inaugurate an Appeal Panel to address complaints arising from the process.
The NDC acknowledged that the primaries would be conducted manually because of time constraints but assured members that future internal elections would adopt an electronic system aimed at improving transparency and reducing disputes.
