The President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, has intensified calls for the rescue of students, teachers, and family members abducted in Oyo State, sparking widespread reactions across the country.

Akinteye arrived in Oyo State alongside student leaders and stakeholders from different parts of Nigeria to press for urgent action over the kidnapping incident in Oriire Local Government Area. He described the continued captivity of the victims as unacceptable and urged authorities to accelerate efforts to secure their safe return.

The abduction, which occurred in May, involved several students and teachers who were reportedly attacked by armed gunmen. The incident drew national attention after reports emerged that a teacher lost his life during the attack, increasing public concern over the growing security challenges facing schools and communities.

Speaking during the advocacy effort, the NANS president emphasized that Nigerian students would not remain silent while their colleagues and educators remained in the hands of kidnappers. He called on security agencies to deploy all necessary resources to ensure the victims regain their freedom without delay.

He also appealed to government officials, civil society organizations, and members of the public to support efforts aimed at bringing the abducted individuals home safely. According to him, protecting students and educational institutions must remain a top priority for authorities at all levels.

The development has generated significant discussions on social media, with many Nigerians commending NANS for taking a firm stance on the issue. The renewed pressure is expected to further highlight concerns about insecurity and the need for stronger measures to safeguard lives across the country.
