Muhammad Danjuma Hassan, a member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives who represented the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency in Kano State, has passed away at the age of 66 after a prolonged illness.
His death was reported to have occurred on Friday evening and was officially confirmed by Akin Rotimi, the House Spokesperson. The lawmaker’s passing has been described as a major loss to both the National Assembly and the country.
Hassan played a vital role in strengthening Nigeria’s legislative framework over the years. “His passing is a profound loss to the House of Representatives, his constituents, and the nation at large,” Rotimi said while he mentioned the late lawmaker’s influence and dedication to public service.
Elected in 2023 under the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Hassan served as the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary. He got recognised widely for his expertise as a legislative counsel and legal draftsman, with several enacted laws reflecting his input and technical knowledge.
He also contributed to multiple committees, including Public Petitions, Aviation, Solid Minerals, Constitution Review, and Treaties, Protocols and Agreements. Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, has extended condolences to his family, constituents, and the government and people of Kano State. Hassan is expected to be laid to rest on Saturday in accordance with Islamic rites.
