The Former Sokoto State governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing persistent internal crises and divisions within the party.
Tambuwal, who currently represents Sokoto South Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate, communicated his resignation in a letter dated March 11. The letter was addressed to the PDP ward chairman in the Tambuwal/Shinfiri ward of Sokoto State.
In the letter, the former governor explained that the ongoing disagreements among party leaders at different levels had made it difficult for him to remain an active member of the PDP.
According to him, the prolonged conflicts within the party have weakened the unity and direction that once defined the organisation, making continued participation increasingly challenging.
Following his resignation, Tambuwal announced in the early hours of Thursday that he had formally registered with the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He said the decision came after extensive consultations and careful consideration.
Despite leaving the PDP, Tambuwal expressed gratitude to the party for giving him opportunities to serve the country in several leadership roles, including as governor of Sokoto State and as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
He added that his move to the ADC was motivated by his belief that Nigeria requires a stronger political platform built on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness and a clear commitment to national development.
