Former Nigerian Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, has expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying the current administration is making efforts to address the country’s challenges.

Gowon made the remarks on Saturday after meeting with the president at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. He commended Tinubu’s performance and leadership across several sectors.

According to the former military leader, the president is making significant efforts to manage Nigeria’s political, economic and social issues while also addressing the country’s security challenges.

Gowon noted that the administration appears to be tackling key national concerns, particularly insecurity, which remains one of the major issues facing the country.

When asked whether there were specific areas where the government should improve, the elder statesman said the president is already working across different sectors to protect Nigeria’s interests.

He stressed that governance requires attention to multiple areas simultaneously, adding that Tinubu’s administration is attempting to address the nation’s needs in a comprehensive manner.

Gowon also explained that his visit to the Presidential Villa was largely to appreciate the president and acknowledge what he described as progress under the current government.

“I came to see him and to thank him for all the good work that he’s doing for the country,” he said.
